Treasure Island or Trump Hotel in Las Vegas?
November 2nd, 2009
My husband and I are planing a trip to Vegas. We are not sure where to stay and are looking at Treasure Island and the Trump Hotel. Which is better? Any other suggestions? I am looking for a moderate priced hotel I know the Bellagio is great but too expensive. Any ideas?
The Trump hotel seems nice, but it is a non-smoking, non-gaming hotel so you would not have the added convenience of late night gambling an elevator ride from your room. I think I read somewhere recently that they charge some kind of resort fee of $15/night not included in the rental rate. I personally would not stay here because I think part of experiencing a Vegas vacation is experiencing the gaming hotels, and the loud slot machines, and the people everywhere.
Treasure Island should be nice. I have never stayed there but I enjoy visiting. It is in a great location.
Check this website http://smartervegas.com/hotels.aspx to find great hotel deals. You can get some of the more luxurious hotels for a steal here. It is a list of all of the promotions offered by the hotel. All you do is find one you like, click "book now" and then you are directed to the hotel website to complete your reservation. Here are some hotels I think you might enjoy
Bellagio from $99/night
Excalibur from $22/night (decent hotel, but you must upgrade to their Widescreen room to get a nice room, it’s only $10-$20 more per night)
Luxor from $42/night
Mandalay Bay from $70/night (very upscale and classy with the best pool)
MGM Grand from $49/night (one of the most popular hotels with great pool area).
A lot of them come with extras too, like free slot play, dining credits, etc.
Good Luck!

If the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas is anything like the Trump hotels in Atlantic City, I’d say stay at Treasure Island.
Plus TI is on the strip.

Trump tower is a non gaming property. No smoking either. TI I think over priced ever since it was sold. Try the Monte Carlo for a relaxing stay. Not too luxurious but more than other places. It is nice to have a relaxing rest at night and if you want some excitement it is located right in the middle of the strip.

Both those hotels are owned by the same person (Phil Ruffian). Trump is just marketing support.

Usually you can get a mini-suite at TI for the same price as a regular room at Trump Tower. I like TI because it is right in the center of some very expensive hotels so you can easily get anywhere, but the price is much lower.

TI is much newer than the other lower priced hotels nearby. Almost all the buildings are from the 1970s: Harrah’s, Flamingo, Imperial Palace, Bally’s, and Bill’s Gaming Saloon.

Not Treasure Island! I stayed there in December 2007 and actually uttered a profanity when I entered the room. The casino and public areas of the property are very nice but the rooms are too small, plain, and noisy. Even the least expensive suite is small – it just has two bathrooms instead of one.
Treasure Island opened in 1993 and was originally intended to be a second room tower for Mirage. Trump is brand new.
I almost booked Trump for my last trip in December 2008, checked out their web site thoroughly, it looks very nice and was reasonably priced. You get a one bedroom condo with a kitchen, for an extra fee they’ll go shopping for you before you arrive and stock the kitchen. I had a one bedroom condo at Jockey Club (next to Bellagio) in March 2006 and it was pretty awesome.. .and that’s an old worn out property. I bet Trump is amazing. But it is a bit off the strip and does not have a casino.
If you can’t quite afford Wynn, Encore, Venetian, Palazzo, Bellagio or Caesars Palace then I highly recommend Mandalay Bay. Pricing should be about the same as Treasure Island, but the room you get is about twice as big and WAYYY nicer. Huge plasma TV mounted on the wall, fully stocked fridge and snack bar, safe, floor to ceiling window (book a STRIP VIEW room), modern comfortable furnishings, a second TV in the bathroom plus TWO sinks, a round bathtub, and a separate shower stall. You get all that with the least expensive room, which they call the 550DR. For a little higher price you can book Mandalay Bay’s newer tower, THEhotel, which is all suites.
I stayed at Mandalay Bay 5 months ago and after 17 trips to Las Vegas it is my favorite place to stay.

Treasure Island. Trump Hotel is NOT near any casino, a long not so safe walk.

There is no casino in Trump. Heck, you may as well stay home! Treasure Island, Baby!
Go to Treasure Island and check out Kanunaville while you are there, too.
