Comments on: hotel near The Riviera convention center in las Vegas?

First let us get a few terms straight. People have differing ideas of "close" and "walking distance" in regards to Las Vegas. The Riviera is probably your best bet. While the place is old and not very interesting, the accommodations are OK providing you get a room in the newer Monte Carlo or Monaco towers. They cost more but are far larger and nicer than the Mediterranean or San Remo towers.

The Hilton is on a large property making a walk to and from the Riviera longer than one might think. The Hilton is also not on the strip so you have to walk through some rather dark and scary streets to get to it. I do not recommend doing that especially at night. Circus Circus is on the Strip and that is the only reasonable alternative.

BTW- the Riviera is not anywhere near the Flamingo as one poster claimed. There is a lot of construction going on in Las Vegas so be prepared. The Volcano in front of the Mirage is also being renovated so the Strip is just not looking its best in 2008.

The Riveria has been upgraded and is nice. Circus Circus is across the street but not that great. Down the street is Sahara. Save time and frustration, stay at the Riveria.

The Riveria hotel is not fancy, but it is nice. My parents always stay there. The Flamingo is close by, especially if you're interested in mob history. There is a good deli right in the front of it, too.

Duhhhhhhh ... the Riviera Hotel. Better to stay right there. You should have gotten good room rates if you booked through the convention. Why stay anywhere else.

All of the hotels mentioned are close and with in walking distance. The only one I would think of staying at would be the Hilton.

Remember in LV if you stay on the strip and be smart you can be out and about at 3 a.m. The other thing to remember, things always look closer then they really are.

Circus Circus (across the street) and The Las Vegas Hilton (behind The Riviera) are the 2 closest major hotels. The Marriott-Las Vegas, Greek Isle Hotel & Casino, Villa Roma Motel and Somerset House Motel are on Convention Center drive, a short 10 min. walk to The Riviera.
