What would you suggest for Las Vegas shopping places?

What are the best stores to visit in Las Vegas. I am wanting to get my 10 year old son something (several somethings :) and I would like to get my niece, mother, etc. some neat little gifts. Where can I do this? I am terrified to go to Vegas (I have never flown), but am going with my Husband for an awards banquet for his job. I am a Kansas gal, so I have NO IDEA what to expect, and i will be a fish out of water for sure!. I am just wondering of some good fun shops near the Wynn hotel. Also please note that my hubby and I do not drink or gamble, so any other suggestions in that area? Basically, I want to see things I will not see in Kansas, though I am sure that will be the case :) Thanks in advance for you advice and God bless :)

One place you MUST go is M&M’s World! It’s great for gifts. http://www.mymms.com/merchandise/las_vegas.asp Here you will find clothes, and limited edition flavours and colours that you cannot get anywhere else. M&M’s World is in the Showcase Mall, on "The Strip". I always make sure to go.

The Rainforest Cafe is something that will definitely give you a "We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto" moment… Good food in the restaurant and lots of kid- (and adult) friendly souvenirs in their huge shop. http://www.rainforestcafe.com/ It’s located in the MGM Grand.

The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, and Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood are also great spots to find Vegas souvenirs. Since you’re at the Wynn…The Wynn Esplanade is "Right there" where you are. The outlet malls (There are two within Vegas) are also good for shopping in general. You’ll be near the Fashion Show mall too. But quite honestly it’s a typical mall as far the shops go, you probably have many of the same shops in your local mall. But it is a very nice spot to shop in.

As far as sightseeing. You’ll have plenty to see/do just on The Strip itself for a couple days/evenings without gambling. If you want a drive, Hoover Dam is nearby. You could also take in a show. Go to a spa for some serious pampering. Or just lounge by the pool, or golf. There’s also the Liberace museum, for over the top gaudiness and helicopter sightseeing tours over Vegas and out to Arizona, flying over/through the Grand Canyon.

Walking Strip in the evenings is quite safe for the most part… It does get a bit dodgy as you get past Circus Circus at night, and absolutely creepy around The Stratosphere at night. The strip is much bigger than it looks as far as walking goes. The hotel properties are massive. There’s a free tram and moving walkways connecting The Luxor, Excalibur, and Mandalay Bay. Also a tram between The Mirage and Treasure Island. With a moving walkway connecting The Mirage to Caesars Palace. The Deuce buses are the cheapest transport option. But the Deuce is often packed so you end up waiting for 2-3 of them before you get one with room to board. The Monorail is the least crowded though at $9 for an unlimited day pass it’s also the most expensive public transport option. However, I find the monorail’s timesaving to be worth the price most of the time.

You say you are "terrified of going to Vegas"… While you can be afraid to fly. Don’t be afraid of Vegas. You will have a great time. As for being afraid to fly. You’ll be just fine, and probably too fed up with the endless waiting: at the airport, in the lines, in the plane, and at baggage claim, to be afraid.

Well first let me say I hope you have a great flight!

Second, I live here in Vegas, but don’t get down to the Strip that often. (I don’t drink or gamble, either.)

For your gift ideas, the Wynn will have some great shopping. Also check the Forum shops at Caesar’s Palace for other great gifts.
I know there’s this place, and I’m not exactly sure what it is, that’s got all these big candy packages and things like that on the outside of it (NO clue what it is..haha),
but you may be able to find something for your son there.

Hope that helps- and hope you have a great time here!

Ok, the Wynn has shopping as well as an art gallery to see. Another good place to shop as well as sight see is the Venetian. Check out the gondolas in the water and the Sistine Chapel artwork on the ceilings. There are nice shops here, too. There is also the outstanding Fashion Show Mall near the Center Strip.

Do not forget in the evening to check out the Dancing Fountains in front of Bellagio (if you travel that far down the Strip) and the Volcano erupting in front of the Mirage. You may want to see the "Sirens of TI" fiasco in front of Treasure Island. It is supposed to be sexy but it is just really stupid. The Special effects are pretty cool.

There is a free tram that runs back and forth between Treasure Island and the Mirage. Saves a lot of walking. Las Vegas is pretty over the top. It looks very spectacular at night. Have a nice long look around you will be amazed. At night do not take any of the little cards and things people try to hand you on the street. They are just advertisements for escort services and such. Just ignore them the way everyone else does or they will drive you crazy.

You will not believe the size or the magnitude of these hotels. Fascinating to look at. One is more outlandish than the other.

If you like a large breakfast experience, try breakfast (before 11am) at Paris. The buffet has five separate areas decorated in the different regions of France and the food in each area is prepared according to the local customs in those regions. There is also a made to order omlette station and crepe station. As well as fresh fruit and pastries.

You can shop in Paris and walk through the passageway into Bally’s. On the way you will pass a glass stand with a million dollars in cash in it. Most people don’t even notice it.

Remember to take a lot of photographs and video. The folks back home won’t believe it.

There are great shops at the Fashion Show Mall, the Grand Canal Shops at Venetian, and the Forum Shops at Caesar’s. Those are all reasonably close to the Wynn. Planet Hollywood also has some good shops, but it’s farther down the strip. In that same area is M&M World, which is pretty neat. I found some neat souvenirs for my son at the Treasure Island gift shop (he’s into pirates).

    Some things to check out:
    *Bellagio fountains
    *Treasure Island show
    *Mirage volcanoes
    *Lion Exhibit at MGM
    *Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay
*Dolphin Habitat and Secret Garden at MGM
*You could drive out to Hoover Dam (about 30 minutes) and take a tour
*Check out a show or two – Stomp, Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil, etc

The fashion show mall is right across the street from the Wynn. You will find anything and everything there. The Miracle Mile shops in Planet Hollywood is another great one. Ceasars Palace is not really a shopping place for kids stuff. They have more adult stores.
