Las Vegas – a good place to go for your holiday?
October 1st, 2009
My boyfriend wants to go to Las Vegas for our holiday in November. I’m not into gambling and we don’t have much money to go and see the big shows they have there.
Is it worth going? What else do you do in Las Vegas?
Just so you know, The Guggenheim museum closed this year.. I saw someone recommended it.
If you’re alright with just taking in the sights, Vegas will be ok.. but that sounds like a waste of a holiday. I would say go somewhere else. There’s 5 basic reasons to come here to Vegas. 1) Gambling. 2) Shows. 3) nightclubs/Stripclubs. 4) Restaurants. 5) Shopping. If you don’t have enough to really enjoy at least one of these, there are better places to go, imo.
I’d go skiing/snowboarding or to the Gulf Coast for the beach, the water off South Padre Island, TX will still be 70-75F, plus you can take a day trip into Mexico for something different.
I don’t know where you’re from or how long of a holiday you have, so my suggestions could be way off.

Vegas is for shallow people that have no life.
Pick someplace pleasant and less noisy and shallow. Even Chicago fits that bill.
Anyplace but Vegas.

No, certainly not. Las Vegas is a desert made inhabitable by tacky lights and air conditioning. It’s terribly dull and disgusting.

Vegas is a lot of fun but it is not cheap, you need a lot of money.

Just wandering through the hotels is like a resort. There’s a lot of expensive stuff, but a lot of free stuff, too. It all depends on how much money you are willing to spend.

It’s still fun to walk around and look at all the sights. Don’t forget to check out the inside of the casinos too especially the pyramid shaped one (the Luxor). The Bellagio has a free fountain show thing in front of their casino.
How about getting married too? JK

Well, there is a lot of free stuff to do there, and with the economy as it is, there are all kinds of deals right now.
The Guggenheim/hermitage museum is not too expensive. There is people watching galore. You can drive to see Hoover Dam, which I think is interesting. There are some free light shows like at Treasure Island and the Bellagio. Some of the other attractions are not that expensive like the amusement park at New York New York. You can play nickel or quarter slots and watch table games and there are lots of free drinks to be had.
Plus if you stay somewhere nice you’ll have a pool and all the amenities onsite. There are all kinds of inexpensive places to eat too.
Have fun!

I’m going in October and round-trip ticket from Boston for $230 and hotel for 5 days for $285 at the Excaliber. So its not that expensive if you are looking to spend money on other stuff. There are tons of great restaurants, cheap buffets if you don’t care.
Daytime:
Swimming pools, shopping, sight seeing, etc.
Nighttime:
Clubs & Shows like Cirque, Comedy, Music, etc.
Not sure when the Christian right popped up on yahoo answers, but yes there is evil gambling and tons of ads for "escorts" which you can choose to easily ignore or take part in.
This is our third trip there in four years and it probably won’t be our last.

You bet it is you can get more bang for you buck in Vegas than anywhere else in the US as long as you are smart.
Firstly you can get a decent full service hotel room for less than a Motel 8 in most citys, then you get the buffet deals, then you get the cheap and free shows. You do not have to gamble to have a good time in Vegas though you do have to gamble to get free drinks ;-(
November is a great time to go not too hot if you really want to save money avoid staying on a Friday and Saturday night as this is when eth room rates go up.
