Las Vegas Strip: Monte Carlo vs. Planet Hollywood vs. New York New York?

My friends and I have all graduated college and we’re looking to take a 5-6 day trip to Vegas this summer. We’re looking for an mid-level hotel on right on the strip, but we weren’t sure which was best. We’re all 22-23 year old frat guys that are looking for a good hotel to party, hang out with girls etc. Obviously a place that attracts a younger crowd and isn’t too expensive. So far we’re been debating between Monte Carlo, Planet Hollywood, and New York New York. They aren’t as expensive as the likes of the Belagio or Venetian, and they’re right in the middle of the strip. Any suggestions and input?

Choose in this order… Planet Hollywood, NYNY, Monte Carlo. Also look into MGM Grand because it’s nicer than the 3 mentioned and there is no resort fee.

In Las Vegas should I stay at Mandalay Bay or The Monte Carlo?

I have stayed at both…Monte carlo’s Delux room is a glorified Holiday Inn room with nothing special….EVEN the Standard room at Mandalay exceeds their Suites!

I pick Mandalay all the way baby….and I always win more there too!

What to do in Las Vegas?

My boyfriend and I are both 21 and will be staying at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas March 14-17th. We’ve never been and since there’s so much to do I was wondering if anyone had suggestions? What are the best restaurants, clubs, bars, attractions? What should we do during the day and what should we do at night? Also, how much money should we bring? As of now we’re bringing $300 each but I’m worried that’s not enough… Any suggestions are appreciated.. Thanks!

It’s usually recommended that you bring about $200-250 per person, per day – especially if you plan on clubbing, drinking, and gambling. Clubs are expensive, and the drinks there are very pricey. Alcohol is expensive nearly everywhere in Vegas. You can make it on $300 each, but I would cut back on those kinds of activities, and you’ll have to plan to eat fairly cheaply as well.

Restaurants – Top of the World at Stratosphere is a great experience, and lunch is less expensive than dinner. Mon Ami Gabi at Paris is really good, and the patio provides a great view of the Bellagio fountains. The buffets at Rio are good, and a good value, and the Paris buffet is also very good ($20 for dinner). We often eat a cheap fast food breakfast and lunch, or hit Denny’s, and then spend a little more on a decent dinner.

Clubs – Pure at Caesars, Tao at Venetian, Jet at Mirage, and LAX at Luxor. Planet Hollywood is a fun party hotel as well.

Bars – Toby Keith’s Bar & Grill at Harrah’s, Carnaval Court at Harrah’s, Coyote Ugly at NYNY

Things to do:
*Free shows on the strip – Bellagio fountains, Mirage volcanoes, and Treasure Island pirates
*Fremont Street Experience downtown (free)
*MGM lion exhibit (free)
*Dolphin Habitat & Secret Garden at Mirage
*Madame Tussaud’s wax museum at Venetian ($25 but often coupons in the coupon books you can get in the taxis or hotel desk)
*Stratosphere view and/or rides
*NYNY coaster and arcade
*Gondola ride at Venetian
*Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay
*Gameworks can be fun
*See a show – Penn & Teller, Lance Burton, Blue Man Group, Jersey Boys, Terry Fator, Jubilee, Cirque shows (Mystere and O are my favorites), Lion King, Phantom; if you don’t have your heart set on a certain show, check out the Tix4Tonight booths on the strip, which offer tickets discounted up to 50% off for same-day shows. But the selection changes every day, and you never know what they will have from day to day.

The previous edition of Travelzoo had a deal for $49/night at the Monte Carlo, Las Vegas, if you stayed b/w Sun-Thur in August. Now that the new travelzoo edition is out, I don’t see that deal anymore. Just curious if anyone still had that previous travelzoo email to send me the link for that deal. I would really appreciate it!

The Monte Carlo deal for August and September is from $60 /night Here is the code, http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/special.html

Has anyone stayed at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas?

What can you tell me about it?

Why take any one person’s opinion when you can read the opinions of many? Check with trip advisor. It seems that the reviews of this property are spotty but a lot of people liked it.

Fiance’ was wondering it it was ok. She doesnt want to walk around, just la out topless and put her top on when she goes to the pool. She wears thong sometimes, too, but knows that is accepatable.
Ok thanks. Was just wondering. We are in our 40′s and she just tans and keeps in great shape. Didnt want to go to a coupke of those hotels that charge 25-50 dollars just to go to a pool to take off her top and get some sun. Thanks for helping out!
Thanks for the links. It is our first trip out to Las Vegas, and just was looking fof some good info. Already booked the Monte Carlo for a week, before finding out about the topless rules. Well, I guess we’ll see if anyone else is topless before she gets into trouble! Thanks again.
LOL ! Now she is wanting to know, that, if topless tanning isnt proper, then what if she wore those paste on things that cover the nipple area. Oh, brother.
I guess I shouldnt complain. She takes wonderful care of herself ( 5′ 6", size 4) and in her 40′s. Loves to stay fit and tan. Hates tan lines. So, here I am, finding out what I can about this stuff.
Thanks for all your help. It is appreciated, believe me.

These were all of the European pools in Las Vegas as of last May.

Mandalay Bay – Moorea Beach Club
Mirage – Bare
Stratosphere – Beach club 25
Wynn – European Pool
Caesars Palace – Venus Pool – This one is free to the public Wednesday through Friday 9am-6pm – it’s $20 on Saturday & Sunday for the DJ pool party….I would call to check on this one if you’re interested. The only thing that remains the same in LV is that things change.

I am pretty sure that TAO at the Venetian has changed their policy, away from being topless.

Can anyone explain to me how to use a Las Vegas algorithm and/or a Monte Carlo algorithm?

I am not understanding . . . Thanks.

Basically when you have a huge number of variables actual evaluation of the function becomes extremely difficult. A five dimensional integral would require 200^5 function evaluations to implement a method with 200 points per axis. It is easy to code analyses that take hours or even days to run. The Monte Carlo method, as it is understood today, encompasses any technique of statistical sampling employed to approximate solutions to quantitative problems. The Monte Carlo approach deals with this problem by sampling the integrand via statistical means. The method calls for a random walk, or a guided random walk, in phase space during which the integrand is evaluated at each step and averaged over. It may produce incorrect results, but with bounded error probability. In general, Monte Carlo methods are used in mathematics to solve various problems by generating suitable random numbers and observing that fraction of the numbers obeying some property or properties. A Monte Carlo algorithm gives more precise results the longer you run it. A Las Vegas algorithm gives exactly the right answer, but the run time is indeterminate. The links I’m including show some examples designed to familiarize you with implementation of the method. Hope this helps, Monte Carlo methods are complex and non-intuitive.

Does anyone know if the"Monte Carlo"Hotel in Las Vegas is under construction right now?

Were booked to go around august 20 through August 24…and need to know if the pool is closed for construction. I’d greatly appreciate it…Thanks!

I actually just stayed there from the 31′st to the 3′rd. the construction is next door. its the new city center. the pool is right under the construction but the music is loud enough that you dont hear anything. the wave pool though was very dirty. the other 2 pools were fine. when i checked in i asked for a room away from the construction and they gave me one at the far end near new york new york looking at the strip. i could still see construction but couldnt hear a thing. 1 bad thin is there is no parking structure. th only parking lot is a small lot between the MC and NY NY which at night is full and is hard to find parking.

we had a great time and loved the monte carlo will definitely stay again. especially when the city center is opened.
