Grand Canyon Holiday? Transport from Las Vegas?

Hi Everyone :)

My boyfriend and I are wanting to go to Las Vegas in October as a belated Graduation and 21st birthday present to ourselves (we will both be 21 in July/August). However, I desperately want to go to the Grand Canyon as well, but I’m having trouble trying to organise it.

Ideally, we’d like to spend at least 6 days in Vegas and then a few in the Grand Canyon. I’ve looked at Virgin Holidays, and they offer some great tours – but you have to drive…

Whilst I can drive, my boyfriend can’t, and I’d MUCH prefer to not have to drive. I’ve only been driving a few months and I’ve never been this far away from home before! So, I’m too nervous to do it.

The public transport seems to be either non-existant, or very long/expensive.

Does anyone know of any good tours/travel companies, or do you have an experience of a Las Vegas/Grand Canyon holiday?

Just any advice on how I could organise this would be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks,

Lucy

P.S. Plus any tips of places I *have* to see?

I highly recommend you take a bus tour to the Grand Canyon South Rim. It’s 5.5 hours from Las Vegas and worth every minute. Count on spending an entire day doing this trip, leaving the hotel around 7a. and returning to LV at 9p. Depending on the operator, you’ll get three hours at the Rim, which is plenty of time to see Mather Point, Yaki Point, Hermit’s Rest, and Yavapai Observation Station. Here’s a link to Grand Canyon tour bus reviews:

Alternatively, there’s the West Rim of the Canyon, which features the Skywalk. It’s at this Rim that you can book a helicopter to take you to the bottom. There’s also helicopter flights at the South Rim, but they don’t touch down at the bottom. Here’s a link for helicopter reviews:

Good luck on your Canyon adventure!

on a holiday weekend IE july 4th???

Worst traffic I ever saw was when the Grateful Dead were in Vegas. Took my friends over 8 hours just to get there from LA. Lucky me, I just happened to fly to Vegas that weekend.

It’s REALLY bad. I-15 crawls from Temecula to Victorville.

my mother is going to las vegas from the uk on holiday. and asked me what i would like her to bring back for me and the kids- aged 7,5,2. any ideas? not too expensive though!

There are loads of shopping in Las Vegas. MGM and Circus Circus have kids stuff. But there’s plenty of cheap stuff. I bought t shirts, key rings, etc for small gifts for people. Caesars Palace is amazing. Clothes are cheap too. Loved it there. Do tell her to do the helicopter to Grand Canyon. Incredible especially flying down the strip at night.

We are thinking of going to las vegas for a ‘once in a lifetime ‘ holiday any advice on what is worth seeing and things to do that doesn’t cost heaps —- besides gambling and seeing some shows???

First of all I’m jealous! Las Vegas is the best!!

Shopping is actually amazing in las vegas!!! Caesar’s Palace.. as well as the shopping is absolutely beautiful! I would just go there all day to stare at the amazing ceiling and fountains!!! There’s also heaps of outlets about 10 minutes out of the city!
- There’s Madam Tussaud’s which isn’t too expensive. It’s pretty cool! and there’s a haunted house in there too.
- The Bellagio fountains are great to watch. They move to music and go for about 10 minutes every hour!
- There’s a lion habitat you can see for free at the MGM grand
- The Treasure Island hotel has a pirate show out the front every hour I think it is. It goes for about 15 minutes and its pretty cool!
- I know you said that u already know about the shows.. but if you go to a shopping centre about 10 minutes from the strip.. I’ve forgotten its name… it sells leftover tickets every day for shows that night.. and they are quite a decent amount cheaper
- There’s a shark reef at Mandalay Bay hotel
- An amusement complex near Circus Circus casino
- Rollercoaster at New York New York hotel
- The Stratosphere observation tower which looks over Las Vegas

Hope I helped! When you get there you will see lots of free booklets with coupons for cheap deals and fun things to do anyway! I think it’s better going to Vegas not knowing what u want to do. You’ll find something every 2 second that you want to do anyway and you won’t even have enough time to do all of it!!
