We are going to las vegas in August – staying at Harrahs – any grocery/liquor/snack stores nearby??

Yes, Right next to the Monte Carlo Hotel Casino is a CVS that sells all types of snacks and I think also beer and wine. Then almost directly across the street from there is a Walgreens that has about the same stuff. As I recall both are pretty much open all night, or at least until very late in the evening. If you want a full service grocery store you have to go about a mile west of the Strip on Flamingo Road.

Then there is a super sized souvenir shop at the corner of Sahara and the Strip (about 3/4 mile North of Harrahs) that has a liquor store and all types of stuff.

Atlantic City versus Las Vegas (Casinos)?

I have probably been to Vegas 50+ times and have never been to Atlantic City but am thinking about checking it out during a trip to Philadelphia this summer.

How do the casinos compare?

Free drinks while gambling?

Are there sportsbooks (I think I heard that there aren’t any)?

Do restaurants have really cheap specials like they do in Vegas?

Any shows worth checking out?

If I have comp dollars with Harrahs Las Vegas, can I use that toward meals in the Harrah’s property in AC by just showing my Total Rewards card?

What is unique about AC that I should check out during the day or night?

If we go out there for the afternoon and gamble for a few hours, will I want to stick around into the evening?

What might I find disappointing in comparison to Sin City?

Any other comments, suggestions and recommedations are appreciated.

I am a regular to AC and I got to Vegas twice a year. Let’s see, I’ll try to answer all of your questions.

How do the casinos compare?

Atlantic City, of course, has fewer casinos than Las Vegas. Although I adore Las Vegas, I win more money in Atlantic City. I find that the hotels themselves are a little less worn than Las Vegas since Atlantic City has down time in the winter time.

Of course you get free drinks while gambling.

No. Sportsbooks.

The resturants do not have really cheap specials like Vegas. The average dinner buffet will cost you about $30.00 on the high end. There are a number of really nice resturants that won’t break your budget.

No real shows that aren’t also in Las Vegas.

As long as you have the comps in your Total Rewards account, you can use them in Atlantic City at Showboat, Harrahs, Bally’s, Caesars, and the Claridge.

If you like the beach, Atlantic City has one. It’s not that bad, although it could use a little spring cleaning. There are also some really nice outlets around for shopping at pretty reasonable prices.

If you go out gambling for a few hours in the afternoon, and you are winning, of course your going to want to stick around so win some more!

Atlantic City is not as exciting as Las Vegas. Las Vegas as the Strip, the lights, the constant flow of people, Atlantic City is nice and quiet on the outside, but the individual casinos offer their own flavor!

Atlantic City is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Philadelphia. If you go on Saturday, go early in the morning before it gets crowded and stay to the early evening after dinner. My favorite place is The Borgata; but Harrah’s has added some new resturants that are really great! The Waterfront Buffet at Harrah’s is outstanding! Also, Atlantic City has the main boardwalk with Showboat, Resorts, Bally’s, Caesars, Tropicana, Hilton, Taj Mahal, and Trump Plaza. The Borgata, Harrah’s, and Trump Marina are on the Marina.

if you are in vegas do not ever eat here you dont want to know what i have seen.i quit because of what i saw

i would turn them in to the health dept. someone could get sick and possibly die from food poisoning. or get some kind of staff infection.

anything for kids to do around harrahs?

There aren’t a ton of kid things near Harrah’s, but there are a few. They can see the pirate show at Treasure Island and the fountains at Bellagio. The Mirage has the Secret Garden & Dolphin Habitat, which kids love. They would probably enjoy a gondola ride at the Venetian. There are shops at the Forum Shoppes at Caesars, which includes a big FAO Schwartz toy store and some moving fountains/statues that are kind of cool.
