Which version of the pirate show at Treasure Island do you like better?

May 27th, 2010

Do you like the new sexy version or the classic Yo ho Yo ho version?

Which version do you think suits best for the Treasure Island in Las Vegas?

I liked the old version. It was so cool and was based on real history. This new one sucks big time.

Grand Canyon Holiday? Transport from Las Vegas?

May 24th, 2010

Hi Everyone :)

My boyfriend and I are wanting to go to Las Vegas in October as a belated Graduation and 21st birthday present to ourselves (we will both be 21 in July/August). However, I desperately want to go to the Grand Canyon as well, but I’m having trouble trying to organise it.

Ideally, we’d like to spend at least 6 days in Vegas and then a few in the Grand Canyon. I’ve looked at Virgin Holidays, and they offer some great tours – but you have to drive…

Whilst I can drive, my boyfriend can’t, and I’d MUCH prefer to not have to drive. I’ve only been driving a few months and I’ve never been this far away from home before! So, I’m too nervous to do it.

The public transport seems to be either non-existant, or very long/expensive.

Does anyone know of any good tours/travel companies, or do you have an experience of a Las Vegas/Grand Canyon holiday?

Just any advice on how I could organise this would be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks,

Lucy

P.S. Plus any tips of places I *have* to see?

I highly recommend you take a bus tour to the Grand Canyon South Rim. It’s 5.5 hours from Las Vegas and worth every minute. Count on spending an entire day doing this trip, leaving the hotel around 7a. and returning to LV at 9p. Depending on the operator, you’ll get three hours at the Rim, which is plenty of time to see Mather Point, Yaki Point, Hermit’s Rest, and Yavapai Observation Station. Here’s a link to Grand Canyon tour bus reviews:

Alternatively, there’s the West Rim of the Canyon, which features the Skywalk. It’s at this Rim that you can book a helicopter to take you to the bottom. There’s also helicopter flights at the South Rim, but they don’t touch down at the bottom. Here’s a link for helicopter reviews:

Good luck on your Canyon adventure!

Is there a movie Theater in Las Vegas within walking distance of the Treasure Island Casino and Hotel?

The closest would be close to the MGM Grand. There is a multiplex theater there.

Inexpensive wedding Reception ideas in Las Vegas?

May 14th, 2010

Posted by admin in Monte Carlo Las Vegas | 1 Comment »

I am getting married at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas on Aug 14th and there Reception is expensive. I am just looking for a place to cut the cake and to have Champagne or a wine toast. I’m looking for places to throw a little reception. Thank you

BEst way to cut costs is to contact the Elks Club, VFW, American Legion halls.
They will rent out to you and you can buy drinks direct from them or bring you own.
I would use google to see some local ones with phone numbers.
But, you and the group will have to travel from the MC to the place, it can be a pain in the neck.

Transportation from Vegas airport to Treasure Island Hotel?

May 11th, 2010

Which would be the cheapest and easiest way to get a party of 8 from the Las Vegas Airport to the Treasure Island hotel. And also back to the airport.

For a group that size the easiest and most reasonable would probably be to take a taxi. >Because of the size of your group you will need 2. Depending on traffic the fare should be around $12-$15 – DON’T let the cabbie take the tunnel, this will add $10 to your fare(they know better)
http://www.taxi.state.nv.us/faresfees.htm
TA – 1-702-668-4000
this is a good # to write down and take with you, if you feel you have been cheated(long hauled) by the cabbie. Call the TA from the cab before you pay.
$3.20 for the first 1/8 mile, .25c for each 1/8 mile thereafter. There is a $22 per hour "waiting" fee, so if you’re stuck in traffic the meter is still running. There is also a $1.20 fee for leaving McCarran in a taxi.

There are no free shuttles to Treasure Island from McCarran. This is a list of all the free hotel shuttles in LV
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/transportation.cfm >Free Shuttles >hotel you’re interested in >LV Map click here, this will give you the times and locations of every shuttle

For Deuce/CAT info

Deuce – $2.00 one way, $5 24hr pass
CAT – $1.25 one way, $2.50 24hr hass

The Monorail

A limo to your hotel is actually cheaper than the airport shuttle bus(which wait until they fill their bus to leave the AP then drop off at any number of hotels, if you’re last it can be a long ride)

You can rent a limo by the hour, or grab one the same as you would a taxi($4.50 each, to the strip I believe it was for the 4 of us)

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. I added all of the public transportation options in LV because at one time or another each has it’s advantages.

Estimated cost – for 8
Taxi – $25-$30
CAT/Deuce – $16
Limo – $36
Limo – 1hr rental of a super stretch $76(10 person)
Shuttle – $44

If you have a Q, feel free to e-mail me through YA.

Later: "boo hoo" would be correct, neither the Monorail nor the Strip Trolley run to "McCarran" airport – I’m pretty sure their web site has that info.>I explained that I was adding ALL of the public transportation options around LV.
