Can any1 here explain Blackjack Card counting to someone at the basic math level?

Please try to take it easy with “casino/house terminology” and “mathematic” lingo. Perhaps there’s some type of card counting “chart” I could use? Any help would be great.

I’ll try to keep it brief…

There are several card counting systems established, “hi-opt 2″ is considered the best (although somewhat difficult to master). I will provide a link for you to read more, and there is a chart included for your convenience. Basically, your count begins at zero….for every card you see dealt, you adjust your integer accordingly. Cards two through seven are assigned a positive value, eight, nine, and ace are neutral (although some people will keep a side count of aces) and cards 10 thru king are assigned a negative value. You keep a running count as best you can and the higher the positive number you have, you should be betting more. This means there are less small cards and more large cards left, which is favorable to you as a player. Accordingly, a low number or a negative number means that the remaining deck is rich in small cards which is to your disadvantage.

Don’t forget that most casinos use a multi deck shoe, so you should really divide your number by the approximate amount of decks remaining in the shoe to get “true count”.

Believe me when I say this takes alot of practice. You can sit down at home and run cards off the deck and keep at it until you can keep count as fast as you can pull cards off. When you get to the casino, everything changes – distractions everywhere, noise, etc…..but it can be mastered.
