What are the best stores to visit in Las Vegas. I am wanting to get my 10 year old son something (several somethings
and I would like to get my niece, mother, etc. some neat little gifts. Where can I do this? I am terrified to go to Vegas (I have never flown), but am going with my Husband for an awards banquet for his job. I am a Kansas gal, so I have NO IDEA what to expect, and i will be a fish out of water for sure!. I am just wondering of some good fun shops near the Wynn hotel. Also please note that my hubby and I do not drink or gamble, so any other suggestions in that area? Basically, I want to see things I will not see in Kansas, though I am sure that will be the case
Thanks in advance for you advice and God bless
One place you MUST go is M&M’s World! It’s great for gifts. http://www.mymms.com/merchandise/las_vegas.asp Here you will find clothes, and limited edition flavours and colours that you cannot get anywhere else. M&M’s World is in the Showcase Mall, on "The Strip". I always make sure to go.
The Rainforest Cafe is something that will definitely give you a "We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto" moment… Good food in the restaurant and lots of kid- (and adult) friendly souvenirs in their huge shop. http://www.rainforestcafe.com/ It’s located in the MGM Grand.
The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, and Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood are also great spots to find Vegas souvenirs. Since you’re at the Wynn…The Wynn Esplanade is "Right there" where you are. The outlet malls (There are two within Vegas) are also good for shopping in general. You’ll be near the Fashion Show mall too. But quite honestly it’s a typical mall as far the shops go, you probably have many of the same shops in your local mall. But it is a very nice spot to shop in.
As far as sightseeing. You’ll have plenty to see/do just on The Strip itself for a couple days/evenings without gambling. If you want a drive, Hoover Dam is nearby. You could also take in a show. Go to a spa for some serious pampering. Or just lounge by the pool, or golf. There’s also the Liberace museum, for over the top gaudiness and helicopter sightseeing tours over Vegas and out to Arizona, flying over/through the Grand Canyon.
Walking Strip in the evenings is quite safe for the most part… It does get a bit dodgy as you get past Circus Circus at night, and absolutely creepy around The Stratosphere at night. The strip is much bigger than it looks as far as walking goes. The hotel properties are massive. There’s a free tram and moving walkways connecting The Luxor, Excalibur, and Mandalay Bay. Also a tram between The Mirage and Treasure Island. With a moving walkway connecting The Mirage to Caesars Palace. The Deuce buses are the cheapest transport option. But the Deuce is often packed so you end up waiting for 2-3 of them before you get one with room to board. The Monorail is the least crowded though at $9 for an unlimited day pass it’s also the most expensive public transport option. However, I find the monorail’s timesaving to be worth the price most of the time.
You say you are "terrified of going to Vegas"… While you can be afraid to fly. Don’t be afraid of Vegas. You will have a great time. As for being afraid to fly. You’ll be just fine, and probably too fed up with the endless waiting: at the airport, in the lines, in the plane, and at baggage claim, to be afraid.
